is it a safe trek?????

to bicycle from marriott%26#39;s townplace suites on 11309 abercorn to the downtown historic area???? i am most curious if abercorn is a nice and safe bike ride??? we would have about 7 miles to ride... or is there an alt route we could take??? thank you..

is it a safe trek?????

Abercorn is not at all a safe ride. It is five to seven lanes of people going 50-60 and most of it has no sidewalks.

There is really no good way to ride a bike that route, sorry.

I think most of the CAT busses have bike racks on the front, if you can get downtown on the bus, then the bikes are great.

is it a safe trek?????

Safe??? Well, the traffic along there heavy, but bikers do ride Abercorn. A lot would depend on how good a rider you are. Habersham is a bike route, but you would have a bit to go before you could get on it. Some of the other streets would have less traffic than Abercorn, but all would also be narrower. Abercorn would not be wise for the rider that%26#39;s not used to riding in HEAVY traffic. There%26#39;s no way anyone could describe it as a ';nice'; ride. Hectic? Yes. Nice? No.

Do you have a map? I think an alternative would be to go on Abercorn for several blocks until you could get over to White Bluff Road. That%26#39;s to the East of Abercorn. Holland Drive or Mongomery Cross Roads would be your best bet to do that. Then north until White Bluff becomes Bull Street at Derenne Ave. And then straight north on Bull until you reach the Historic District. I really don%26#39;t know if it would be any ';safer'; as some parts of it have heavy traffic too. But a good bit of it has much less than Abercorn. It%26#39;s still not a good ride.

And then, there%26#39;s the problem of what are you going to do with your bike once you get into the Historic District. Bikes are NOT allowed in the Parks and Squares.

Thanks so much for the advice... i am not an exp. biker so i appreciate all of your help...

if bikes are not allowed in parks or squares.... is it worth bringing a bike to explore the dntn area????

thattgyrl......not experienced???? Then, don%26#39;t even think about it. You wouldn%26#39;t even want to ride your bike in the Historic District. We have scads of tourists driving about, looking at things and not watching for people, much less watching for people on bikes. It would be scary!!

Come to Savannah to enjoy. You will, if you leave your bike at home. Trust me on that.

Town place suites is only like 15 to 20 mins from the hotel in a car and a very nice hotel you have chosen did you see my write up I did and a couple of photos in the hotel section on the left ?

I would suggest you dont ride a bike to HD of Savannah .Abercon is a very busy road better to take your car and park up in the toursit info center on Martin Luther blv , its easy parking and cheap too am sure it cost me 5 dollers for the day . From there you can either take a trolley tour or enjoy the walking even in the heat and humidity its still an enjoyable walking experiance.

what months are you planning ongoing to Savannah , its its around the july 4th you will love river street and the fire works .

spelling mistake it should have read

15 to 20 mins from Down Town Savannah to Town place suites .

We just returned from a wonderful first trip to Savannah and found that walking all around the town is just delightful. There are always the squares to rest in if you go too far, OR the trolleys you can buy off/on passes to go further than you may want to walk.

Bikes are fun downtown, though not necessary. You can ride around the squares with the cars, still faster than walking.

It is illegal to ride through the squares but no one seems to remember that, including the police, I see it all the time.
