Where is a good place for a family to go just for a day trip coming from Atlanta? I was planning on visiting a beach just to sit out and relax or walk along one. We have never visited St Simons and figure this weekend would be a nice visit just to get away.
Day Trip this weekendEast Beach is the best spot on St Simons. There is an old Coast Guard station that is now a museum right on the beach. There is good parking and bathroom facilites. Just down the beach heading towards the King and Prince Resort is Massengale Park with lovely live oak trees. I wonder if you really want to drive to St. Simons from Atlanta for the day. It is a 4 hour drive each way. A weekend trip yes.
Day Trip this weekendThat is quite a long way for a day trip, have you considered staying overnight, there are a few hotels that are not expensive (more inland on the island).
East Beach is a good beach to have access to plenty of parking and plenty of beach through the day, when the tie comes in on SSI a lot of beach disappears.
Some other things to consider would be to rent some bikes, there are a lot of bike trails. The village by the pier is a nice area to walk around and look at shops and grab a good bite to eat, 4th of May is excellent for breakfast and lunch, Barbara Jean%26#39;s is yummy for dinner, and Mullet Bay is a great place for a good bite to eat and a drink-all of these places are located in the village.
