Where would be a good spot to watch the parade for a younger crowd? I have heard of certain areas that are more family friendly but where would the other areas be? For instance are there any bars on the parade route?
Not looking to be be rowdy or anything-just trying to find a fun spot for us. We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Bay St. so, somewhere close to there would be nice.
Fun St. Patricks Day Parade Spot
Most of the bars are on River St. and at City Market. The bars closer to the middle of the historic district: McDonough%26#39;s on Drayton %26amp; McDonough Sts., the 17Hundred90 on Lincoln %26amp; E. President (it will be packed w/ locals)...these 2 comes to mind.
Since you%26#39;re staying at the Holiday Inn Express, the parade will pass right by on Bay, so depending on your room%26#39;s locale, you may be able to see it from your window, but it%26#39;s a heck of a lot more fun to be there in the middle of all the fun.
A great square with lots of families is Oglethorpe Square, just a couple of blocks south from your hotel on Abercorn St. People begin setting up their canopies, picnics, etc as early as 6 a.m.
The biggest crowd of families will be in Lafayette Sq., next to the Catholic Cathedral.
Fun St. Patricks Day Parade Spot
Bay Street would be right up your alley for your description. Not so many families, and lots of people having a great time.
I can%26#39;t wait - look forward to my stay in lovely Savannah, but I am there for the party! Happy St. Paddy%26#39;s all !
