We are planning a honeymoon in Savannah in mid-June. I would love some tips on things that are worth doing and those that we might want to avoid. We are planning to do a haunted pub tour, an evening carriage ride and either the riverboat or dolphin tour (would love an opinion on which is better) - we may end up doing both of the boat tours, as the prices seem reasonable. We are also going to have a meal at Elizabeth%26#39;s and take a few of the daytime tours. We are hoping to pack a lot into four or five days in the city.
Neither of us has been to Savannah before (we%26#39;re from Toronto), so any ideas would be much appreciated!
Savannah HoneymoonI%26#39;m from Toronto too. I%26#39;m heading down next month and I%26#39;ll give you some tips from a tourist point of view when I get back.
Savannah HoneymoonThat would be wonderful! Thank-you. We are so excited about this trip.
I also realized I should have been more specific in some of my questions after I posted this message (forgive me, I%26#39;m new to forums). A few clarifications:
Would the riverboat or dolphin tour be a better option?
Is an evening carriage tour recommended in June? I know it can be quite humid.
Are there anything that locals or those who have visited would recommend for honeymooners?
Thank-you so much!
The dolphin tour will show you more of Savannah%26#39;s inland waterways than the Savannah River tour, which goes past the industrial sites (Ga. Port Authority terminals)....on the dolphin tour you%26#39;re all but guaranteed to sight the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins while you cruise through creeks and rivers near Savannah. The natural scenery can%26#39;t be beat.
Take a private carriage tour at night, at 8p.m. It will still be daylight but getting close to sunset then....book a vis-a-vis carriage through Historic Savannah Carriage Tours, the ride takes about an hour. They may even pick you up at a special restaurant or you hotel/inn if you%26#39;re in the historic district. Let them know it%26#39;s your honeymoon and they may provide chamapagne or something nice, at an extra fee, but a nice touch.
The Dolphin Magic tour is beautiful. It leaves from RiverStreet downtown Savannah. I just did the trip with my son, and we had a wonderful time. The concierge in our hotel advised us against the River boat since it only tours the industrial area. I%26#39;m glad we listened.
We did the Dolphin Magic Tour on Riverstreet, and it was wonderful!!! The concierge in our hotel recommended this tour instead of the Riverboat, and I%26#39;m glad we listened. It was beautiful!!! We saw plenty of dolphin, and the first mate and captain were wonderful.
