1St trip to Atlanta

My family will be driving to Atlanta from New Jersey in August for 2 Braves games. We are turning this into a 3/4 day mini vacation. Besides the games, what would be the best attractions for our 2 sons, ages 13 and 15? Also in what part of town would you recommend staying? Thanks.

My boys are the same ages. I%26#39;d recommend the World of Coke, the Aquarium, and Stone Mountain. You could spend an entire day at Stone Mountain and not get to do everything. As for where to stay, if you want to stay in town, The Days Inn on Baker Street or the Hyatt on Peachtree Street are both convenient to Underground Atlanta, Hard Rock Cafe, the Aquarium, etc. If you%26#39;d prefer to stay outside of town, either Dunwoody (The LaQuinta on Peachtree Dunwoody Rd) or Marietta (Embassy Suites Galleria) are both about a 20 minute drive away from downtown and generally nice, safe areas.

I second the suggestion for the aquarium and Stone Mountain. Your boys might also enjoy the Civil War battlefields at Kennesaw Mountain, about 30 minutes from downtown. While you%26#39;re in town, you should also visit Piedmont Park in midtown, which is a very vibrant city park and always has rollerbladers doing impromptu exhibitions.

The CNN tour looks fun as well, and having been twice recently, I would certainly recommend the Oakland Cemetary. The fish house Six Feet Under overlooks the cemetary and is a great place to enjoy a lunch on its sunnny deck.

I generally recommend that people stay in midtown, as downtown is full of tourists and conventioners and not much else. That said, the Hard Rock Cafe, though touristy, may be enjoyable to teenagers. There really isn%26#39;t anywhere decent to eat downtown and there isn%26#39;t much to do at night. Midtown has tons is restaurants of every genre, and is a pretty area to just walk around and look at buildings.

Your boys might enjoy the Fox Sports Grill at Atlantic Station or the ESPN Zone in Buckhead. Atlantic Station has several restaurants, shops and a movie theater, which might be a fun place to hang out.

Also, they might like to try tapas at Loca Luna, which is a really festive restaurant with a great patio and live Latin music.
