The dogwoods and azaleas are blooming in my area of Northwest Georgia. The high today will be the mid 80s. Spring had definitely arrived. Now is the best time of the year in Georgia, in my opinion.

Hi-
I am looking for spring wildflowers this weekend (like Bloodroot, Trilliums, Phacelias, etc.) Sounds like you might know of some public areas or trails in NW Georgia, or anywhere in N Georgia for that matter?

Do you mean wild flowers to pick to plant? I really don%26#39;t know. I am not an outdoorsy person.
I will ask my mother if she knows. She plans to study with the extension service to become a master gardener.
I asked her today and she didn%26#39;t have any recommendations.
No not recommendations of what to plant.
Anyway, wildflowers should never be dug from nature, especially from public parks/ forests, etc for one%26#39;s yard. That reduces their ability to perpetuate the species in their native habitats. They should be ordered from nurseries that grow them from seed/ private gardens etc.
I was wondering where wildflowers could be enjoyed by the public, like the Shirley Miller Wildflower Trail near LaFayette, GA. Maybe someone else who stumbles upon this thread can comment. Some states have a wildflower hotline number, like a fall color hotline, but I guess GA doesn%26#39;t. SC does but the recording is not being updated this year(yet).
There are sections of I-75 and along state highways that are planted with wildflowers in the median. I believe it is the local garden clubs that are responsible for the planting. I%26#39;ve noticed signs that credit them with the planting. However, they aren%26#39;t the natural occurring that you are looking for.
It just occurred to me that Rock City in Chattanooga is planted with many native species of plants. The woman who started it dedicated almost her whole life to collecting and preserving them. If you haven%26#39;t been to it, I urge you to go.
reinarubia-
I can now answer my own question because I found the Shirley Miller Wildflower Trail. It is south of Davis Crossroads in Walker County, Georgia, off of Hog Jowl Road. The trail and the nearby waterfalls this weekend were the most beautiful place I have ever seen in Georgia since moving here 16 years ago. It was simply breathtaking. There were at least 10 different species of native wildflowers in full glorious bloom in their natural habitat. And the waterfall is beautiful too. Wow.
Thanks for the information. I may have to check it out sometime.
