Quick report on our day in Atlanta

Thanks to all for your great advice on this forum. We stayed w/ our two cats at Hotel Indigo in Midtown--a charming, CLEAN and attractive place in a great location. My 6%26#39;2'; husband survived the small bathroom (though he reminded me we live on a boat in the summer, which has a tiny head.) Our only complaint was that they were full and we couldn%26#39;t book a second night. Their ';waiting list'; consisted of continually calling the front desk to see if a room opened up--not a very efficient process. But we%26#39;re planning to return next spring and book quite a bit in advance. (We tried the newly renovated and highly recommended Georgian Terrace next door, but they no longer accept pets.)

We took the nearby subway to the High Museum. Nice exhibits and building (was a bit disappointed with the smallish folk art section since that%26#39;s what I knew them for but was surprised by the nice African exhibit) and a friendly employee told us about the Dogwood Festival in nearby Piedmont Park. We sauntered over there for a beautiful afternoon walk.

Since we%26#39;re vegetarian/vegan, we%26#39;d hoped to try Cafe Sunflower, but they%26#39;re closed Sundays, so we chose the Vortex Bar %26amp; Grill near our hotel. We really liked their menu flexibility--all their burgers can be replaced with veggie or black bean patties and they have other veggie ';bar'; food items as well. (And who can pass up tater tots?) Scenic outside seating and good service.

The next morning we walked to The Flying Biscuit--the place was hopping even for a late Monday breakfast. The tofu scramble was quite good and my husband said his omelette was great. Though I love biscuits, I wasn%26#39;t crazy about the sweetness of theirs; on the other hand I scarfed their oven-roasted ';Moon Dusted'; Rosemary Potatoes.

We swung by Georgia Perimeter College/Clarkston on our way out of town for an impressive Chinese brush exhibit.

Look forward to returning to your beautiful city next year!

I%26#39;m glad you had fun! I%26#39;m a huge fan of the Vortex black bean burger (although if you return to Atlanta you really must try the one at the EARL) and Flying Biscuit is just an institution. I hope the Dogwood Fest crowds weren%26#39;t too bad. Come back soon!

Thanks for the nice and informative review.

Veghead the majority of the folk artworks at the High Museum are in the process of being prepared for shipment to the Louvre in a collaborative agreement that will bring many of the Louvre%26#39;s masterpieces to the High over the next 3+ years, starting in late summer. It is the first time in the Louvre%26#39;s 200+ year history that they have taken part in such a collaboration.

There is also a nice section of ';Folk Art'; at the Atlanta History Center on

West Paces Ferry.
