Savannah in late July

We%26#39;re planning a long weekend/family vacation July 28 - July 31. May be able to extend the stay a day or two either way. Is there anything special going on in Savannah during that time?

I%26#39;ve been making a list of things to see and places to eat. Bonaventure Cemetary, St. Johns%26#39; , Ft. Pulaski, Tybee Island, Marine Science Center %26amp; the Lighthouse. Seems we must eat the Sunday Buffett at The Pirates House.

We%26#39;re a family of 5, Mom, Dad, 2 daughters 20 %26amp; 17 and son 12. Any other suggestions?

Savannah in late July

I hope you are prepared for the temps that time of year, it can be in the upper 90%26#39; with heat indices in the 110s.

Keep an eye on the local paper for the goings on:

It is a little skimpy that time of year because it is so hot, they cram most events into April, May, June and Sept, Oct, Nov.

I am sure there will be stuff going on thoough, check back when it is closer.

Add River Street and a little walking around in the squares to your to do%26#39;s and be sure to get to Forsyth park at least to see the fountain and people watch for a while.

If you can make it the next weekend, (the First weekend in August) you will have a big fireworks display on Friday night and Saturday and Sunday will be the First Saturday Festival on the River. Music, entertainment, food, art and craft, etc. Other than that, I don%26#39;t know of anything really special.. Like Brian says, ';it%26#39;s HOT.'; But there%26#39;s usually a breeze coming off the water on the River......that%26#39;s the Savannah River, in case you aren%26#39;t that familiar with the city.

If you like cemeteries like Bonaventure, check out Laurel Grove. It%26#39;s spooky! If you go to the cemeteries, watch your car and handbags. All the spooky people in the cemteries aren%26#39;t dead. They prey on the careless. This isn%26#39;t just a Savannah problem, it%26#39;s everywhere there are large cemeteries and people who wander away from the unlocked car.

Anyone like ships? The Ships of the Sea Museum is interesting. Fort Jackson, built for the War of 1812 will be on your way to Fort Pulaski. It%26#39;s small, but it will provide a contrast with the BIG Pulaski.
