Best Food On River

We will be staying at the Hyatt for 3 nights next week and I have made some reservations at a few very nice restaurants like Sapphire%26#39;s but on the third night we would just like to hang back and eat very casually somewhere right on the river (hopefully within walking distance of the hotel). For food, what do you think is the best available right on the river?

Appreciate your suggestions.

If you like seafood try the fried shrimp at Tubby%26#39;s overlooking River Street. I%26#39;ve had fried shrimp throughout Savannah %26amp; the lowcountry. Tubby%26#39;s serves the local wild shrimp which has that distinctive sweet taste from the creeks %26amp; inlets. Farm-raised shrimp is just bland, blah by comparison.

Another suggestion is the new Vic%26#39;s on the River, just east of City Hall.

Soft-shell crabs should be coming into season soon, so ask around if any are avaiiable. Only if they%26#39;re fresh, too...frozen soft-shells aren%26#39;t worth ordering.

Best Food On River

Anywhere on River St is within easy walking distance from your hotel. It is only 8-10 blocks long with the Hyatt being in the last third to the west.

A fun place for dinner is Kevin Barry%26#39;s, 100 feet west of your hotel. An irish pub with some very fun irish folk singers most nights about 8 or so and some pretty good irish or american food. Not amazing food but in combination with the music, a great evening.

Here is their website:

Click in calander to see who is playing and maybe some infa about them.

Click on menu then choose which menu to see the food.

Cobblestone Conch house, a block west of The Hyatt is very good too, a little pricier but excellent food.

We just returned from Savannah. We loved Huey%26#39;s for a casual lunch. Vic%26#39;s on the River was absolutely fabulous for dinner, so we returned for lunch to try some additional offerings. This is a very nice place with exceptional food.

I updated my Restaurand Reviews today.

Lots of great places to eat on the river.

Robert8888, If you are looking for something different try the Olympia Cafe - great little Greek place on the river. Food is very good and reasonably priced. We visit there everytime we go.. Just a thought.

I agree with the Tubby%26#39;s recommendation. It has a great location and view, and the food is inexpensive and delicious.

It%26#39;s great to hear Olympia recommended. We loved it too...casual and good, (not great, but nothing on the river is except perhaps Vics which is new since we%26#39;ve left). The best dining in Savannah is away from the river, imho--Garibaldis, Sapphire Grill, Bistro Savannah, Il Pasticcio for the less expensive, or Pink House and Elizabeth%26#39;s for the splurge.

With fewer dining opportunities than possibilities, we cancelled our Sapphire Grill reservations (not finding the posted menu all that appealing) for Bistro Savannah and were positively wowed!

One evening, we headed for Planter%26#39;s Tavern (downstairs from The Pink House, with the same menu) and ordered four appetizers to share. Sensational! (Along with Gail Thurmond on the piano...) So, when we returned to The Pink House for dinner we could concentrate on just the entrees and dessert...
