Homes to tour

Of all the homes to tour which one would you deem the best to view .I have been over several times now and will be back in june / july anf think its a bout time i took a home tour .

Homes to tour

There really aren%26#39;t any private homes that are open to the public except during the Spring House and Gardens Tours. There are a few museum homes like the Owens-Thomas House and The Davenport House are open year around. Also, The Juliette Low. (Girl Scouting%26#39;s founder) Skip the Mercer House as I understand it is a ripoff.

Check with the Visitor Center for the names and addresses of any other ones.

Owens/Thomas house is part of the Telfair Museum. You can get a package ticket to get into the Telfair, the New Jepson Center for the Arts and the Owens/Thomas house. A pretty good deal, I think, at $18.

The Julliette Gorden Low Birthplace is a personal favorite since I have renovated a good bit of it. It is a beautiful house and has lots of interesting history and period stuff.

Thank you both for the information , looks like I will be visting a couple of homes this trip over .

I wouldnt mind but I have walked past both many times and didnt go in .

The only thing that puts me off a small bit is that you are not left alone to wonder and view at your own free will like you would be in any museums / National Trust Homes here in England

We toured the Owens-Thomas, Davenport, and Green Meldrin - along with many, many amazing private homes along the Savannah annual tour of homes and gardens last month. All were quite nice, beautiful, and interesting.

One day, we found ourselves on Monterey Square with time to spare and decided to go ahead and tour Mercer House ';anyway';. Despite ';The Book'; and that many would discourage you from visiting because it%26#39;s ';touristy'; or a ';rip-off';, and this was, hands down, THE most sensational home we toured all during our visit, public or private. The architecture, gardens, decor/furnishings (antiques), personal belongings, are all positively spectacular and otherwise unsurpassed elsewhere. This is one amazing, obviously comfortably lived in and, thoroughly enjoyed, HOME, incredibly chock full of understated wealth and elegance.
