Savannah ';mementos';

I will be visiting in a couple of weeks (sooo excited)! I always like to buy some things when on vacation that typify the area I%26#39;m visiting. Are there any local type things that you would give as a a gift that represent Savannah??? Where to buy? Also, do people dress for dinner more in the South? I%26#39;m from Scottsdale, Az --it%26#39;s a resort town--people dress very casual, but us locals tend to dress up more. Is it the same there? Thank so much.

Personally If you have a biker friend I would say you cant go wrong with a Harley davidson dealer T shirt , there is a Boutique shop on River street slighty more expensive than at their dealership near 1-95.

thats because your paying tourist prices.

Some nice shops in City Market to buy gifts .

Dressing up when Dining out well I dress casual and found no problem

Not long ago people dressed for dinner, there are so many tourists now that anywhere you go you will see someone in shorts and a t-shirt, usually with a baseball cap on. You will also see people dressed up, especially on Saturday night so either is acceptable at most places now.

There are a lot of gift shops in city market and on River street, peach stuff is everywhere even though we don%26#39;t grow that many peaches any more.

A real local gift would be a Gulfstream jet but that may be a little pricey!

There is plenty of local art around that may be a good idea or some cookies from Byrd Cookie or BBQ sauce from Johnny Harris%26#39;. You will find plenty of stuff to choose from.

If you want to give food as a gift, and you will be giving it within a few days of returning from your trip, you can not do better than a box of freshly made pralines from River Street Sweets. I get a couple of boxes to bring home every trip through Savannah...they are VERY well received!

Totally agree on the pralines. They%26#39;re a terrific gift...if I don%26#39;t eat them before they make it home. Many times you can find a coupon in some of the brochures at the Visitor%26#39;s Center.

what about TAFFY (cewy sweets ) They have a few shops that make it on the premises.

LIKE THE CANDY STORE ON RIVER STREET ALSO IN CITY MARKET .You can choose a nice ornate tin container to hold them in , you only pay fore the tin and not the taffy to fill it up .

Stop by any grocery store and buy two bottles of Orignal Johnny Harris BBQ Sauce. One for you - one as a gift. $1.99 a bottle

Wow--thanks for all the ideas--might have to bring extra suitcase (esp. for the Gulfstream ;)

I totally recommend prailines from River Street Sweets. I think it%26#39;s better than the candy shop in the market. You wouldn%26#39;t mind dropping me off some on your way back to Arizona, would you?? :)

As for dressing, I live in Atlanta and we usually dress up for dinner, especially on weekends. I took a group of about 10 to Savannah last summer and stood out like sore thumbs, even in a nice restaurant like Sapphire Grill. My stillettos were totally out of place and I should have opted for sandals or even fli pflops. Everyone was in shorts and the most dressed-up the men got were khakis and polo shirts or button-downs. We were equally overdressed for the bars. I think something like a light sundress or casual skirt would be fine in all but the fanciest places, like Elizabeth%26#39;s.
