Early April-too early for kayaking?

We%26#39;re returning to Sav for the first week of April and want to go kayaking either off Tybee Island or maybe down around Jekyll Island where we will also travel. Can anyone tell me if it will be too cold to kayak off Tybee in about 3 weeks? I%26#39;m thinking that kayaking along more inland creeks might be warmer that week but what do you think?

There is no way of knowing what you would consider too cold. People kayak all year around in some places, even with ice in the rivers.

Now, having said such a dumb thing, I will go on to say that USUALLY the first week of April is fairly pleasant. The water will not be as warm as it is in July, but it%26#39;s warmer than in December.

This past year has been sooooo crazy from a weather stand point, that I wouldn%26#39;t be surprised at anything.

Currently the water temperature is still about 58 to 60 degrees. By the first of April it should be a few degrees warmer. It should be nice weather for kayaking when you get here. A lot will depend on if you are using a sit on top or sit in kayak. Either way if you are dress prepared it will be okay.

Now I know of several people who have kayak fished all winter long. Even on the colder days.

Thanks, we%26#39;re Bostonians who hate the cold but since I posted this, I called a couple of places and I think since we won%26#39;t be out on the open ocean, we should be ok. We%26#39;ll make a judgement based on the weather once we get there but hopefully if there%26#39;s no stiff wind and the sun is warm to hot, we should be ok. We%26#39;ll be doing one of the 1/2 day tours just to get a feel for the area since we won%26#39;t be bringing our own kayaks until we finally get to move there! Can%26#39;t wait!!!

There are a couple of good kayak rental and tour places on the island. You will find the marsh and creeks around Tybee provide some very good paddling. Little tybee is a nice paddle and around Cockspur Lighthouse there are usually some dolphins.

Just keep in mind what is cool to you is freezing for someone who has always lived here.

Exactly John, we might actually look tough with our Yankee blood in us! I did talk with one kayak place on Tybee that said it goes to Little Tybee so I think we%26#39;ll go with that plan
