Places to stay/visit Historic Savannah, Ga?!

My husband and I will be making our first trip to Savanna, GA this summer. I plan on taking a couple of carriage tours and hopefully the Lady %26amp; Sons (Legends %26amp; Lunch) cruise. Would anyone please give some suggestions on nice places to stay...B%26amp;B or hotels in the historic district? Preferably, priced $250 or less per night if possible! ahem! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated for that matter. It will be an extended weekend trip, and I feel that the carriage tours and dinner cruise will be plenty to fit into our schedule along with just site seeing. Any suggestions on anything i may not want to miss out on please advise! I love history and beautiful scenery! Thanks so much in advance!!!

Check out the listings on the left of this page. The B%26amp;Bs are listed along with the hotels. You%26#39;ll get some nice pictures of the buildings and the rooms.

There are two very nice reviews about trips to Savannah on this page this morning. Perhaps you could pick up some ideas from them that would help.

I certainly hope that we measure up to your expectations. Come and enjoy!!!

The Hyatt and The Westin have nice river view rooms, as does the Savannah Inn and the Olde Harbour Inn. Check their reviews to see what you think.

If you are an art person, the Telfair Museum has two great museum buildings, one a beautiful old house the other brand new and beautiful as well. They also have a restored and furnished 19th century house, there are package tickets available. Worth every penny.

I%26#39;d suggest an on/off trolley. Grey Lines offers a combo package of tour and historic house tickets which is a really good deal. They also have a AAA discount. Be sure to visit the Owens-Thomas house museum if no others can be worked into your schedule. As for accomodations, have you considered a rental unit for a few days in an historic home? There are some fine ones available that cost quite a bit less than comparable hotel rooms. Rate for 1-bedroom, bath, kitchen, %26amp; living room suite will run about $100-150 or so off-season (summer) except during big festivals/events.

Hi! I just got back last week from my first trip to Savannah - I can%26#39;t wait to go back!

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Hotel on Bay St and loved it! It is a great location, right across street from Riverfront where there are lots of shops, restaurants etc. It doesn%26#39;t look like the typical chain hotel, it is decorated to fit in with the historic theme, lobby has lots of exposed brick walls and such. The rates we paid were $139 for 2 double beds on a weeknight, and $117 for a room with one double bed on a weekend. Not sure of the price with a king bed. The beds in this place I LOVED, so comfy and the first time I ever stayed in a hotel that had great pillows. View from room was nothing to look at but they have a pool on the roof and you get a great view of the river area, and also of the fireworks show (I think it%26#39;s on the first Fri night of the month, not sure). The staff here was very helpful and friendly. I%26#39;d go back in a minute. Easy walking distance to whole historic area.

One thing we did was tour the Mercer House, which is where the whole Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil stuff happened. I%26#39;m not really a fan of the book or movie, but still found the place interesting. I thought it was cool that they had some candlesticks there that originally were a gift from George and Martha Washington to their daughter on her wedding day. There is plenty to see just walking around, lots of great parks and buildings. Have a great time!

You will need to be @ the door of Lady %26amp; sons Restaurant @ 9:30 a.m. to put your name on the list for either lunch/dinner.

She also has a brother, Bubba that has a restaurant as well. They share recipes with each other on their menus.

I highly recommend a hotel called Ocean Plaza Resort which is located directly on the ocean on Tybee Island just outside of Savannah. Make your reservations now (under 250.00), they have a small pool, gigantic beach, beautiful restaurant and the ocean is spectacular there. Wish I could go with you. Perhaps take a tour of the Tybee Island Lighthouse Station (if you are into that), a lot of intersting history occured there.

have fun!
