To hail a cab on the street? I wouldn%26#39;t be planning on that at that time of day. If you%26#39;re at a downtown hotel, just stop by the front desk or the concierge desk the night before and ask them to schedule a cab for the next morning. If you%26#39;re not at a hotel, I%26#39;d definitely call for a cab at least an hour before your drop-dead, must-leave-by time -- in my experience booking a cab the day before wouldn%26#39;t make any difference.

Leaving downtown at 5 am for a 6:30 flight may be a bit late, however. Your flight will start boarding at 6 am, meaning you have only an hour to get to the airport, get through security, and get to the gate. If it%26#39;s a Delta flight, and you%26#39;re checking bags, you only have until 5:45 -- Delta won%26#39;t accept checked bags less than 45 minutes before flight time. I%26#39;m a nut about being on time, however, so judge accordingly. Security lines are never a problem that time of morning -- it%26#39;s just that it%26#39;s a long way from the terminal to some of the gates.

hi, thanks for your suggestions.I will fly with UA,domestic flight to Chicago.should i arrive early?I hears it will cost $25 or so from the airport to the downtown,if that is true?TKS.

If it%26#39;s a domestic flight, and you%26#39;re on United, you can probably push it a bit -- UA operates out of the T Gates at ATL, which are directly connected to the main terminal building instead of being separated from it like the other concourses (A-E). The T-Gates also have their own security checkpoint, which should be pretty clear at 5:30 am on a Thursday (avg wait for that checkpoint that time of day is 8 minutes). Once you%26#39;re through security, go left and the United gates are at the end of the T-Gates concourse (T13 %26amp; T14, I think), just a few gates away. You should be able to be at your gate within 20 minutes, tops, from the time you arrive at the airport, assuming you have only carry-on bags and already have your boarding pass.

In your shoes, I%26#39;d be shooting for arrival at the airport around 5:30. Problem is, I don%26#39;t know how to guarantee that without making advance arrangements for a cab for 5:00 am, unless you%26#39;re at a hotel with an active cab stand.

$25-$30 sounds about right for cab fare from downtown to ATL. There%26#39;s a flat fare for inbound trips from the airport to downtown of $30, so that would be consistent.
