When I booked my trip to Savannah back last August, I hadn%26#39;t realised that I would be there on the 2nd biggest St.Patrick%26#39;s Day parade in the USA. When I discovered that, I resigned myself to not being able to see everything I wanted but to go with the flow. Well, what a marvellous time I had. Although my stay was brief and three and a half hours were taken up with watching the Parade on East Bay Street, I fell in love with such a beautiful city. We stayed at the Marriott Riverfront with its wonderful view over the Savannah river and watched the ferry crossing to the Hyatt, saw the steamboat plus many other boats plus the powerboat from the US Navy roaring up river. Even the fireboats shooting out green water in honour of St. Pat%26#39;s day. Because the trolley bus wasn%26#39;t running we walked everywhere, through the beautiful squares down to Forsyth Park where even the fountain was spouting green water. Went into the scented garden where a lovely woman pointed out all the best blooms and gave us a piece of Rosemary for remembrance.
I would love to find out the name of the very kind woman who gave my sister and I a lift from the Airport with her friend Diane. I never had the chance to thank her properly and even when I saw her on the McDonald%26#39;s Float in the Parade all I could do was shout and wave as the crowd was too big to get through. I think her name was Patsie or Patty.
I would urge anyone who is trying to make up their minds about coming to Savannah to book straight away. It was one of the biggest highlights in my %26#39;tour%26#39; of the Deep South!
Trip report 16th-18th MarchThank you so much for your kind review. It is so nice when people take time to tell us they enjoyed themselves.
I%26#39;ll bet you were a little surprised when you found out about the parade. It really does change things around a good bit.
Come back AFTER the parade next time. The two weeks right afterwards is an excellent time. Everything is in bloom and the Annual Savannah Music Festival is in full swing. We always have outstanding musicians and singers from around the world.
Trip report 16th-18th MarchAileen, if you don%26#39;t mind me butting in here, what are the local weather forecasters saying about the weather for Sav starting this Sat the 4th through the following week? All rain? All cool temps? I am totally bummed as our last trip down was in October during all the rain of the Pirate weekend festivities!!Thanks

Looks good but not great so far, you never know though. Saturday will be beautiful.
Thanks Brian, I am bummed but what can you do. We%26#39;re actually going to Jekyl Island for a couple of days first to check that out on our way up to Savannah, maybe if I keep my fingers and toes crossed, it%26#39;ll improve before we get there???
It%26#39;s supposed to start clearing tomorrow (Friday), but it%26#39;s been such crazy weather this spring that anything could happen. I%26#39;ll cross my fingers too.
They don%26#39;t write songs about ';April Showers'; for no reason. It%26#39;s been raining on and off for about 4 or 5 days. It%26#39;s about time it stopped. We sure needed rain, but this is a bit much!
Up here in Boston, we are saying ';at least its not snow'; but I REALLY, REALLY want to go kayaking and stroll the DRY streets of Savannah and leave my cold weather clothes home- bummer again. But we%26#39;ll be there regardless as the weather won%26#39;t take away the beauty of Savannah to us! Now if we can only find the Moon River Brewery so we can drown our rainy sorrows in beer while we%26#39;re there-LOL
