Midtown, Buckhead or Elsewhere?

Four of us will be in Atlanta for business and will be visiting the Chamblee and Edgewood areas along with various other sites around the Northeast section of Atlanta. While looking at hotels for a kinda, sorta middle I looked at Buckhead and Midtown. It seems like most of what%26#39;s in Edgewood is B%26amp;B%26#39;s and Chamblee didn%26#39;t look very appealing in terms of hotel selection.

What are your suggestions? We%26#39;d like to stay at a decent priced hotel (less than $175/night) that would be within walking distance of some restaurants/bars.

Thanks in advance.

Midtown, Buckhead or Elsewhere?

If you want to stay somewhere within walking distance of restaurants and bars, I%26#39;d go with midtown. Buckhead is not that pedestrian friendly.

I don%26#39;t know what the going rates are, but I%26#39;d look at the hotels near the intersection of Peachtree and 14th street. Also check out the Georgian Terrace, which frequently has some good deals.

Midtown, Buckhead or Elsewhere?

Did you read the sticky at the top of this thread? That might help get you started. If you%26#39;re not staying at a B%26amp;B you don%26#39;t want to stay near Edgewood. It borders, and even encompasses, some really sketchy areas. I think midtown is your best bet.

Thanks for the replies. I will certainly check out the intersection you mentioned. We stayed in downtown the last time in Atlanta and it was alright but I%26#39;m looking forward to movin%26#39; on up! haha

After looking at the hotels and prices in midtown the ones we%26#39;d consider are priced out of our range for the most part, only the Marriott is close.

With that said, I did look at the Wingate in Buckhead that is ranked #1 and it sounds like it would fit perfectly in terms of budge and amenities. Is it within walking distance of restaurants, bars, etc.? We%26#39;ll have a car so no huge deal if not, just nice to walk instead of driving around.

The Wingate in Buckhead is not too far a walk from bars and restaurants, and if you have a car it should e no problem. It%26#39;s not exactly in the middle of things, but provides easy enough access to the action.

Re: the #1 rating, I will never understand that.

Thanks, I believe we%26#39;ll try and get that one.

I%26#39;ve been curious how the rankings are derived as well. Not sure what the hotel is #1 at but by the reviews many agree its a good one!

If you stay at the Wyngate, you%26#39;ll be near Phipps Plaza (try the Tavern for lunch or dinner) and Lenox Mall (CPK and regular mall fare). Also, there are some new restaurants in the Terminus building down the street at the intersection of Piedmont and Peachtree. I think there%26#39;s Bricktop%26#39;s, Dressed, Flying Biscuit, Lola, and MF Sushi. Also, right by the Wyngate is a Chipotle?, Copeland%26#39;s and some restaurants in the shopping center where the Kroger is. So I think there%26#39;s a lot to choose from in terms of restaurants.

If you want to go to a bar in Buckhead, you%26#39;ll probably need to drive a couple minutes to Park Bench or Fado.

Awesome, thank you! What%26#39;s ';CPK and regular mall fare';?

';CPK'; = ';California Pizza Kitchen';

';CPK and other mall fare';: In other words, the same chain restaurants you%26#39;ll find in every other mall/shopping center across the country.

Ahhh, gotcha. ';CPK'; threw me off and I was thinking like transportation fare! haha
