How long, in time, is it to drive from Macon to Andersonville? We are driving from one National Park to another.
Thanks!
Length of time from Ocmulgee to Andersonville?
Have you tried going to mapquest.com and putting in the addresses of the parks? I find that you get a pretty accurate idea of how long it will take by using the site.
Length of time from Ocmulgee to Andersonville?
Not really. I could care less about ';mileage';. What I really want to know is ';real time';. Around these parts, when someone asks how far it is from point A to point B, it%26#39;s pretty much answered in hours and minutes. An answer of ';120 miles'; means diddly when there%26#39;s not straight route and a constant speed.
Know what I mean?
Mac
Here%26#39;s a thread you might read before going to South Georgia.
tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g55138-i683-k38205…
reinaruba,
I appreciate your pointing me towards that thread. I%26#39;ve lived in the south, and LOVED it. I find the people to be warm, inviting, %26amp; give-you-the-shirt-off-their-back nice. If I had my choice, I%26#39;d still be living near Cape Girardeau, MO. But I didn%26#39;t have the choice...
My response was really directed at your response, not at the complete southern culture. I really don%26#39;t want you to feel offended any more than you already are, but the original question asked for a measure ';in time';. Does one really think that I%26#39;d plan a trip of nearly 3000 miles roundtrip and NOT utilize programs like Map Quest, Yahoo Travel, Google maps, etc etc? I trust your intentions were good, but all I really want is someones%26#39; ';real'; gut reaction as to how long it will take to drive from point A to point B.
Thanks for your help. Sincerely.
Just for example, the answer you provided for the drive from Chattanooga%26#39;s Lookout Mtn to downtown Atlanta was awesome! That%26#39;s exactly the type of answer that is most helpful. ';Real Time';. Thanks a lot!!
Mac,
I have no idea of what you have done to research your trip. I answered the way I did for other people%26#39;s sake as well as your own. Many people aren%26#39;t aware of how mapquest is useful. Your answer to me could have been put in a kinder way.
While we%26#39;re on this thread, do you want to know how long from Macon to Andersonville or Ocmulgee State Park to Andersonville? I don%26#39;t know the answer but maybe someone else can help you. Most of the posters here, though, are up in the Atlanta area or Savannah.
reinarubia,
I%26#39;ve learned something today. I got so wrapped up in planning a 12 day cross country trip that I didn%26#39;t see a fresh approach. My first thoughts on the Mapquest idea were like, ';well, duh'; without realizing that, no, you didn%26#39;t have any idea what work was put into it.
Sorry about that.
Either one would be fine. Macon OR Ocmulgee to Andersonville.
Thanks.
Let%26#39;s call a truce. ☺
My husband is in the trucking business and he uses mapquest to determine travel time. For example, I just put in the addresses between my house and my mother%26#39;s house and although it is only 9 miles the estimated time is 21 minutes which is fairly accurate since it requires going on country roads.
Maybe this could give you a round about idea of time required while you are waiting for a person to answer you.
Another website I like is gasbuddy.com to find out where to buy the cheapest gas.
reinarubia,
I have to hand it to ya... I got so disenchanted by using Googles maps and directions being SOOO far off that I pretty much blew the other ones off. I think Mapquest%26#39;s numbers (equations, algorhythyms, calculated speeds, sheer luck?) are so much better than Google.
Thx again. =)
Hey, Mac. My college roommate%26#39;s folks lived in Americus, which is only about 10 miles from Andersonville. We usually drove south of Macon to the Byron exit and then headed west. It%26#39;s a long stretch and slow in spots due the little towns along the way. I%26#39;d give yourself an hour and 15 minutes to do it.
The POW museum at Andersonville that opened up a few years ago, by the way, is outstanding. If you have time, stop in Americus to visit the beautifully restored Windsor hotel. It%26#39;s lovely. Plains, home of former President Jimmy Carter, is also fun to visit.
Also, there%26#39;s a really good Mennonite restaurant in Montezuma (on your way to Andersonville) called Yoder%26#39;s. Great country cooking to be had at a very reasonable price.
It%26#39;s closed on Sundays and Mondays. Go to www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Writeup.aspx… for info.
