My son and I will be visiting someone at Macon State prison in October. Where do we stay?? What town?? Want NICE hotel!

This may be a dumb response but exactly what city is the prison in?

You do understand that the Macon State Prison is in Macon, don%26#39;t you? So the answer to %26#39;What town?'; would be Macon.

As far as which hotel, look at the listings over to your left on this page. Read some of the reviews and find one that is in the price range you need.

Check out google %26#39;Macon State Prison%26#39; for an address and map so that you will be more able to decide what would suit you.

You will have a car, right? If you don%26#39;t. I suggest that you think about renting one. It will make getting around a lot easier.

I know Macon Georgia and I didn%26#39;t think that they had a State Prison there. I did as you suggested and google the name. Macon State Prison is in Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Thanks!! It never occured to stupid me that it was Macon County rather than MACON the city.

I wonder if there is lodging in the area that is set up to provide for the visiting friends and relatives. Oglethrope is pretty much a small place.

If you%26#39;re coming in from Atlanta on I-75, your best bet would probably be Perry, GA. There%26#39;s no Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons, but there are the usual chain suspects. There%26#39;s a few hotels, but nothing I%26#39;d want to take a chance on, in Montezuma, which is a little closer to Oglethorpe, but not significantly. There%26#39;s one of pretty much every national chain hotel in the budget/limited service category in Perry. Americus has quite a few as well, but I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;d be on your way there or back. Perry%26#39;s about a 45 minute drive away.

A little farther away on I-75 is Warner Robins, which has an even larger assortment of hotels and restaurants than Perry. It%26#39;s about an hour and ten minutes. Another fifteen minutes or so away and you%26#39;re into the Macon metro area, which has still more options.

If you%26#39;re driving all the way and are taking the overland route (I-20 to Birmingham, I-65 to Montgomery, I-85 to Columbus, etc) Americus would make a little more sense, but in that case you%26#39;d have a lot more options in Columbus. It is over an hour and half away, however.

Why are you all discussing PRISONS? This is a travel site--go off forums for this stuff.

Correct the prison is not in the city of Macon but in Oglethorpe, which is in Macon county. According to RandMcnally its about 60 miles south of Macon, GA down I-75 and about 125 miles from the Atlanta airport.
