We are also traveling from Atlanta to FL - late evening - are hotels in Byron, GA in safe area?
Is Byron, GA a safe place to stay for one night?
Small town, no worries -- agricultural community. But you wont have much to do. If you stay there go to the Lane Packing Company (featured in southern living magazine - has frequent bus tours that stop there) in Fort Valley, it is a peach/pecan orchard place that sells all kinds of fruits, veggies, nuts, dressing, salsas, jellies, deserts, etc....... You can buy huge pecans at around $3-4.00/lb.
I would stay either just north or just south of macon but not in macon, so Byron is not a bad choice.
Also stop at Buckner%26#39;s Restaurant before you get to Macon for a great southern buffet. It is at the Hwy 36 and I-75 intersection in Jackson GA. It will be on your right on the access road near the truck stop.

If you want more choices for dinner, etc. then stay in either Macon or Perry, Ga. After Perry there is not a whole lot except Cordele before you get to Valdosta.
You might want to stay in Warner Robins. It%26#39;s only one exit up from the Byron hotels but it has a lot more to offer travelers.
Thanks everyone for the input! It is much appreciated!
