Midtown Proximity to Airport

Looking for a place to eat and look about while in Atlanta for a day. Sounds like Midtown is what I am looking for, however, I will be staying near the airport. I will have a car - any suggestions on getting to Midtown, parking there, and places to eat?

Midtown Proximity to Airport

You just hop on I-75 heading North once you reach downtown there are several exits you can take. I would take the Pine Street exit and head North on Peachtree street. There are numerous pay lots along Peachtree, with at least 2 or 3 eateries on a given block. So you will have plenty of options. If you don%26#39;t want to drive you can always take the light rail into the city and get off at North Ave which is a block off of Peachtree street. A couple of easting establisments include the vortex, Micks, The Varisty, Baronda%26#39;s, and Gordon Biersch. There is also a pub that used to be an old firestation which if memory serves is on North Ave, if not its is the next street over heading south.

Midtown Proximity to Airport

If you have all day, there%26#39;s plenty in midtown to occupy you. I would suggest taking MARTA to the North Avenue station, and walking towards Peachtree. You%26#39;ll see the Fox Theatre, which is stunning insoude and out - and gives tours if you%26#39;re interested. You can just stroll north on Peachtree, and you%26#39;ll pass tons of shops, restaurants, bars, etc. You%26#39;ll pass the Margaret Mitchell House, and if you veer east 2 blocks you can see and walk though Piedmont Park. Back on Peachtree, you can continue walking about a mile total from North Ave - not bad if you break it up by stopping to poke into various shops, until the 14th St area, where you%26#39;ll wind up at the High Museum, which has a great and rare exhibit featuring the Chinese terra cotta warriors.

You%26#39;ll have hundreds of restaurant options. My top suggestions would be Vortex, Baraonda, Ecco, Mitra, Avra, Cuerno, Einstein%26#39;s, Tap, Trois, Oceanaire, South City Kitchen, Spice Market (I haven%26#39;t eaten here yet so it%26#39;s the only one I can%26#39;t personally recommend but it is from a famous chef and gets great reviews), Cypress Pint %26amp; Plate. You can see the websites for these places if you just google the names.

';inside,'; rather

From the airport, you would take I-85 north to midtown not I-75.

If you are searching for I-75 as you exit the airport, you are not going to find it. A little north of the airport, 75 and 85 join up as they go through downtown (what we call the ';connector';).

The arts center marta station is at the High Museum basically, and very near piedmont, if you didn%26#39;t want to walk down peachtree st. It really is a great stroll though, especially this time of year.

Don%26#39;t know what kind of food you are into, but all the restaurants listed are great - my fave of the moment is Ecco. Get the fried goat cheese balls, they are surreal.

Yum, now I%26#39;m going to spend the day craving those goat cheese balls. They are divine.

Great suggestions all! I have narrowed it down to Vortex and Ecco after looking at websites - it looks like I%26#39;ll have open time for two evenings. Would you suggest I take MARTA to the North Ave. Station and walk up to the restaurants, or get off at the Midtown Station, which appears to be closer?

The midtown station is probably slightly closer, but just about a block.
