I will be traveling to the Georgia coast in June on a family vacation and need some direction. We are a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. I have looked at Hilton Head, Tybee Island, St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island but cannot decide. We all prefer an uncrowded beach with a laid back environment. Because of this I ruled out Hilton Head but would like to know if I am wrong, it just seems too commercial. Adults would like to spend some time in Savannah. So Jekyll seemed a little far away. We will be coming from the Atlanta direction. Kids like outdoor activities (bike riding, horseback riding, fishing and canoes), laying on the beach and one likes to shop. Staying as close to the beach as we can, beach front if possible, is important to all of us.
Am I on the right track or does someone else have a better suggestion. Please help!!!

Tybee is a straight shot from Atlanta. There is pretty much everything available that is on your list but horseback riding.

With teenagers, I second Tybee. However, the beaches will not be uncrowded. Jekyll is uncrowded. However, Jekyll has no places to shop and few places to eat. I%26#39;m positive I saw people on horses there once.
I have not been to a St. Simons beach. That area seemed swank. We%26#39;re pretty laid back in our family.
Not ALL of Tybee beaches will be crowded. You may have to walk a little to find an uncrowded area, but it%26#39;s there. The area around the Pier will have the most people. A lot will depend on the time of the high tides. High tide, less beach, low tide, more beach. It makes a big difference.
we have never found a crowded beach at hilton head, and have gone many times during peak period. Hilton attracts an older crowd, so your teenagers will probably like tybee better. But Hilton does have more to offer in my opinion and better accomodations (more choice). Either way, you will not be far from savannah.
