Savannah Trip this May

Hi,

My husband and I will be visiting Savannah this May for the first time. We plan to stay from May 7th-14th. We are thinking of using Savannahgetaways.com to rent a place to stay as opposed to a hotel. If anyone has used this company, please provide as much detail as possible (property rented, happiness with company, property and location, etc.). Also, any restaurant (for breakfast, lunch and dinner) recommendations would be much appreciated. We love BBQ and southern food, Mexican, Italian and American (more in the burger/sandwich genre as opposed to the duck/lamb genre). The one thing we do not like is seafood. For breakfast, we%26#39;re looking for recommendations for both on-the-go and yummy-pancake-sit-down joints. And any additional site-seeing or travel information is gladly welcomed.

Thanks so much in advance for any and all help!

Do you have the map of Savannah Getaways?

I would try for something in either section #5 or #8. We had someone recently post that stayed in one of the apartments listed in #8, I think it was reference 1000. This #8 section is around the corner from Clary%26#39;s which would be a dandy place for breakfast.

Thanks Aileen! Unfortunately, my husband is very allergic to pets and the rentals in the #5 %26amp; #8 districts are pet-friendly (we can%26#39;t take a chance that a dog or cat stayed there previously). Are any of the other districts good places to stay or are there some in particular to definitely stay away from? Thanks again! (P.S. Thanks for the tip on Clary%26#39;s!)

All of Area #3 and the two blocks toward middle of the entire area of 4, 6, 7 and 9. I don%26#39;t mean to leave any very good places out that may be in the other areas, I%26#39;m just trying to give you general idea of what might be the better choice. Look at the pictures, and if it looks like a little wooden row house, look elsewhere. The lower apartments or carriage houses for the larger houses may be your best options.

It may be just the way I feel, but I think I would prefer a short term rental, if conditions were right, over a B%26amp;B. It%26#39;s something about having my own private entrance that appeals to me.

My husband and I rented an apartment through savannahgetaways and were very pleased with the company and the property. The apartment we rented was #1016 (I think). It was a ground floor apartment of a fabulous townhouse at 23 West Perry Street. It was huge, had brick floors, nice kitchen, living room, wonderfully comfortable queen canopy bed. The bathroom was a little small, having a shower but no tub. The owners that live in the townhome above the apartment and the occupants of an apartment over the carriage house share a courtyard garden right out of the back door. The property is beautifully decorated. There is a TV in the living area, but no TV in the bedroom. Parking is on the street, but the owner was very gracious in obtaining a temporary parking pass for us at no charge. The apartment was one short block from Bull Street, right around the corner from the Six Pence Pub. The apartment was a little dark, being on the ground level, but would be a nice cool place to retreat to after the heat and humidity of a Savannah day. We were happy with our choice. My husband attended meetings and I very happily (and safely) wandered through the historic district during the day.

Now we really splurged on our November visit and stayed in another apartment on Factor%26#39;s Walk that was fabulous! It wasn%26#39;t rented through savannahgetaways, but through another company. It was a bit more expensive, but was very unique being right above River Street. I think you will be very happy with Savannahgetaways, if you find a property to suit you.

Thank you both so much! The key areas and the detailed description are so helpful. I really appreciate you both taking the time to help me plan a happy vacation. Thanks again!!
