Weekend Getaway

My friend and I are trying to plan a weekend getaway for April 1-3 for somewhere in Georgia. We also want to have some things to attend as well (ie: art exhibits, plays, etc)

Does anyone have any ideas for us?

Thanks

Well, there are several museums in Atlanta that have exhibits. You might check the websites. The High Museum...which I believe has a new exhibit opening at the end of this month. The Fernbank Museum of Natural History. The Atlanta History Museum. Plus, good restaurants, shopping, shows.

The museums sound great, I will check. Do you know if there is anything special going on in the state (ie: Ft. Lauderdale has the King Tut exhibit) anything similar in Georgia?

If you are interested in history, you might be interested in visiting Americus Georgia, where there are 2 National Historic Sites within a 10-15 minute drive, Habitat for Humanity%26#39;s Global Village, Koinonia Partners - the birthplace of Habitat, the SAM Shortline Excursion Train and the Georgia Rural Telephone Museum. Andersonville National Historic Site is the site of the most infamous Civil War Prison, and houses the National P.O.W. Museum. The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is comprised of Jimmy Carter%26#39;s boyhood farm, a museum dedicated to his life and the train depot which was his campaign headquarters. At Maranatha Baptist Church (about 15 minutes from Americus), Jimmy Carter often teaches Sunday School and it is open to the public. He IS teaching on April 2, according to the schedule on the Maranatha Church website. You can even get a photo with Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter after Church services, if you like.

they make outstanding peanut brittle down americus way too.

i cna think of no lovelier place to visit than fannin county, blue ridge georgia. beautiful lake, scenic mountain vistas, clean air and water, fine dining, great chili dogs, scumptious bbq, florida fresh seafood, train excursions, a drive inn movie showing frist run flims, home made fudge, cool evenings and warm sunny days and warm inviting hosts. excellent little theater too!

Would love to know more about Blue Ridge, where exactly is it located? And is there a quaint bed and breakfast there?

As far as Atlanta goes, the most talked about exhibit right now is the controversial Bodies - the Exhibition going on at the Civic Center until September. It studies the aspects of the human body, inside and out. You can learn more about it at: www.bodiestheexhibition.com

At Fernbank, the currect exhibit is Chocolate - The Exhibition. It%26#39;s been traveling the country for a few years now and has gotten rave reviews. fernbank.edu/museum/…index.html

The Atlanta History Center%26#39;s site is having problems so I can%26#39;t tell you the latest exhibit. They do have (in addition to permanent exhibits on Bobby Jones and the Civil War in Atlanta) the Tullie Smith farm and the historic Swan House on the grounds of the center, too.

The main traveling exhibit at the High Museum of Art right now is the Quilts of Gee%26#39;s Bend. They recently had a major expansion so there%26#39;s plenty of new things to see there. www.high.org

Hope that helps!
