Things to do in Helen

We are staying in Helen, GA at the Loreley the week before Christmas with our 5 and 7 year olds. Is there anything special going on for Christmas? We plan on going to the State Park and riding the train (can%26#39;t remember where it leaves from). Any other suggestions?

Hi...The train leaves from either Bryson City,NC or Dillsboro,NC depending on the route you%26#39;d prefer. There%26#39;s a website with all information: http://www.gsmr.com/ and I%26#39;d suggest reservations in advance. Nearby is Unicoi State Park. Check Georgia State Parks websites for particulars. The park may have some holiday activities planned. An easy hike there my kids always enjoyed is up to Anna Ruby Falls. The trail appears handicapped accessible it%26#39;s so easy and follows a stream up to the falls. You%26#39;ll all like it for the beauty.

Things to do in Helen

we always enjoy visiting nora mills on the river. it%26#39;s fun to wathc them grind corn and tour the authentic grist mill. the river is beautiful there too.

Go to A Touch of Class one of the best stores in Helen. They have gourmet food with lots of samples to try.

Helen also has a small amusement park with putt-putt golf; most kids enjoy that. Take a picnic lunch and go to Unicoi State Park, then hike up to Anna Ruby Falls. It is an easy hike for children, just remember to dress in layers; it%26#39;s the middle of winter but if you start hiking, you get hot!!

Also the drive up to Brasstown Bald is beautiful.

I don%26#39;t know the mileage to Dillsboro NC from Helen if you do go on the train ride, but seems like it took us about 1 1/2 hours to drive there. Bet the kids would love a train ride!!! Have fun and travel safe.
