Savannah Question

I have done some research regarding crime and I%26#39;m quite surprised. I am really excited about moving to Savannah from Madison, WI but for a county that has 232,048 people, 31 homicides in 2005 is not like everywhere else as stated by others.

What is the city doing to improve on the crime? Can someone explain to me how the crime in Savannah is like everywhere else? Is it very isolated? Is it gang related?

Regardless, I am still very excited to move to Savannah!

Savannah Question

The homicides are located in the usual expected places. Inner City public housing and blighted communities get a lot. Drugs, alcohol and the tendency get angry over nothing cause most of it. Of course, there is a lot of jealous boy/girl friend killing too. Most crime, I hate to say is black on black.

The rest of crime is caused by the usual things that you see in any moderate to large city where people below a certain level of income and with a disinclination to work for minimum wage, live in crowded condition. The convenience store hold-ups happen everywhere.

There are areas of the county where people still leave their doors unlocked. But there are also areas where carrying a gun is the macho thing to do.

They are putting more police on the streets. But, let%26#39;s face it, if the tax payer won%26#39;t come up with the money to pay enough of them decent salaries, there will never be enough.

this is the site of our local paper. It%26#39;s a free registration. Keep track of us for a while and see why the numbers don%26#39;t tell the whole story.

Savannah Question

here 1i was thinking it was that johnny harris bbq sauce that tastes so good. heck i know lots of folks who%26#39;d kill for that stuff. common sense i think would take care of most situations as it would in any other fair sized city. if you ask dirrections of a group of strangers on dark street at 4am in the morning you ought not be surprised by getting more than you bargained for.

As Aileen said, the majority of the homicide is drug deals gone bad or drunk family members shooting each other. A small percentage is random or part of a robbery or something.

People have been upset lately because of the ';it%26#39;s only crack heads shooting each other'; attitude. It is sad that onyone gets shot and sad that people use crack but it is hard to work up much sympathy for someone when both the shooter and the victim have 8 or 10 pervious arrests for serious crimes. If we get rid of those career criminals, and we are on the way, this towns crime rate will drop considerably.

We are currently on the hunt for a new Chief of Police, if you know a good one, write to City Council, this will be your city too, soon.

You will love it here.

You can find crime all over the USA. I will wager a dollar to a donut that once you move, you%26#39;ll never leave. Savannah is one of the grand old ladies of Ssouthern culture. Beautifully-restored homes (downtown around parks, etc.) and it just oozes with ';laid-back';, southern genteel.

You most likely won%26#39;t live in an area affected by the crime rate, especially if you live out toward thunderbolt, Wilmington Island, or further out toward Tybee Island.

Go through one Springtime there and you%26#39;ll see waht I mean.

Thank you for your responses. I can%26#39;t wait to get there!
