Masters Practice Round Advice

I finally received Practice Round tickets for Wednesday,it only took 9 years of trying.I already have a hotel in Columbia and we are driving. What I need is some advice on the Tournament day itself.Things like, when to arrive, where to park, the best food and some of the best places to watch.Again the tickets are for Wed. so I would also like some advice on the Par 3 Contest.I%26#39;m very excited to see Augusta National and I don%26#39;t want to mess it up,so any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello congrats on the wed badge, I%26#39;m making my third trip in a row this year. I%26#39;ve always gone on Monday but I can give you some advice. I stayed in Columbia the first year (staying right in Augusta now), you have to hit the road early 45 min drive and by 6:30 am washington street is jammed because free parking (mon-wed) doesn%26#39;t open until 7:00. There is pay parking on the main drag for 10-20 bucks if you don%26#39;t want to wait. Never been to the par 3 contest but here is what I do when I get in, head to the back nine first most people start at 1 and go in order, plus you get to see amen corner with little people around and is amazing first thing in the morning. Once I do the back nine I head for the front nine in the afternoon(less people). I%26#39;m not sure when the par 3 starts but I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll be able to walk the back nine first if you get as soon as it opens. any purchases do before the end of the day, food is inexpensive and great, cameras allowed mon-wed but no video cameras. Have fun Brian

do not get bbq on the course, it%26#39;s no where near as good as the pimneto cheese. i didn%26#39;t think i%26#39;d ever write that in a million years, but it%26#39;s true.

This year parking will be completely different. As you might recall, before you could actually park on the club ground if you arrived early enough. Since then, the club bought a huge parcel of land across the Beckman Street. A dozen city blocks were leveled to create more parking. The rumor is that you will be able to park free in this new area. Free shuttles will take patrons from the parking area to the course. I suggest monitoring the official Maters web site for the updates. They always post the most current parking and traffic information in mid to late March.

The only other advice I can give is to follow the club rules to the letter. Don’t even think of sneaking in a cell phone or a beeper. You will be caught and evicted. You can, however, bring a camera to the practice rounds.

Par 3 starts at 1 PM. Arrive earlier and walk the grounds. By 11 am take your predetermined spot. Many like the ninth green by the Ike’s Pond. It’s a good place to snatch an autograph.

Pimento cheese or egg salad.

I agree with the BBQ, not so good!

Also be sure to have time to go through the gift shop-later in the day is a zoo. May want to get there early, shop, and then put items in a locker or run back to the car. This worked for us last year on Monday.

We also stayed in Columbia, we left around 6:30-7AM no trouble. We parked onsite with little issue going in or out of the lot.

Finally, when you see they do not allow cell phones, they mean it! My 15 year old thought that rule was for everyone but him-not!

Yes food and beer is cheap at the Masters and it%26#39;s the only place I%26#39;ve ever seen where the line for the men%26#39;s room is longer than the ladies ;-)

Definately take a camera, last year I got great shots of Tiger, Gary Player and the unbelievably beautiful golf course as well.

I would definitely stay in augusta if you can. I know that the perrin guest house, which is about 1/2 mile away from the gates of the augusta national still has rooms and it is gorgeous, ive stayed there before.. there website is perringuesthouse.com
