For those of you who seek a good, cheap lunch, I found a good place to add to the list today.
Fat Louie%26#39;s is located on Marietta Street near the post office and the former home of Thelma%26#39;s. I met a friend there for lunch and it was pretty good. They have Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef, burgers, salads, loaded potatoes, etc. I had a 1/4 pound hot dog, fries and a drink for $6. Pretty tasty stuff.
The decor is nothing to write home about, it%26#39;s a converted gas station. But for a cheap lunch, it was a nice alternative to the usual fast food stuff.

I%26#39;ve wondered about this place. I%26#39;ll have to check it out. I keep trying to go to Spoon, which is just up the street, but it%26#39;s never open when I go by. This area is blowing up and getting more and more good places.
Fat Louie's
do they have chili dogs there as well? i love places like you dsescribe though. i fondly recall buying gas at what is now dusty%26#39;s on briarcliff when i was an undergrad at emory so very long ago.
Although I live in Roswell, I%26#39;m planning a trip to NYC for Spring Break. I have spent the last 3 months on the NYC Forum and have found great help with a ';sticky'; post on the NYC forum for restaurants. Just a suggestion for all you Atlanta experts to get a post going that TA might add as a sticky. I don%26#39;t kow how to do it but I hope one of you do. You won%26#39;t have to keep answering the same questions when it comes to restaurants and I might find a new place or two as well. Thanks.
Sorry, BBQ, I don%26#39;t think they serve chilli dogs. I think the Chicago style is their claim to fame.
Did want to add that they serve a portabella mushroom sandwich and a veggie burger.
JAtlanta, I would love for more places to open up in that area. When I worked nearby, it was Taqueria, Thelma%26#39;s and not much else. Fat Louie%26#39;s used to be the site of Joseppi%26#39;s and we were sad that it didn%26#39;t last that long. I liked their wings.
Roswellmom, that sounds like a great idea but like you, I%26#39;m not sure how to get a sticky created. I may e-mail the TripAdivsor folks and see how to get that going.
sheeeeeeeeesh, yankees! weenies and no chili. lots of kraut i bet too. is there no shame? a two handed hot dog with no chili. what%26#39;s next an invasion?
Thanks Peachyswan. You and the other local experts have me hooked on watching the Atlanta forum on TA. My famiily moved to Atlanta back in 1963, grew up in Buckhead, now live in Crabapple. I love finding new places from your recommendations as well as nuke, bbqman and jatlanta. TA is a very helpful site. The NYC forum has helped enormously with our upcoming spring break trip next week. You guys are making me want to come back inside the Perimeter again.
Come on Roswellmom, you can do it! Take a mini vacation ITP!
Roswellmom, I echo JAtlanta%26#39;s plea. C%26#39;mon and visit ITP! I%26#39;ll even meet you at Fat Louie%26#39;s for lunch. :-)
I%26#39;m so glad you%26#39;re enjoying the forum and that you%26#39;re posting. I love seeing more local folks post and offer advice because as you can see, there%26#39;s no way one of us could have all the info. on everything. We need all the input we can get.
FYI Fat Louie%26#39;s has great chili dogs, made with all beef Sabrett dogs and real homemade chili. For me,I get the fully dressed Fat Louie angus burger with their signature hickory sauce, applewood bacon and sharp cheddar cheese. And don%26#39;t forget the fresh cut fries. The don%26#39;t sell BBQ, but they do run a special toward the end of the week of the best smoked chicken I have ever tasted. Yum!
My husband%26#39;s most favorite food in the whole world is a good hamburger. I suppose I will have to accede to his wishes and suggest we go to Fat Louie%26#39;s some time.
