Where should I stay, will be in hotlanta for 3 days over the weekend of April 28 to May 1.
I am a city girl (orginally from NY), like fun things, artsy stuff, cool places and shopping. Coming with my mother...
Mid-town, Downtown or Buckhead
it all really depends upon your budget. they are not all that far apart. even wihtout a car getting to and from is easily navigated with marta. enjoy your visit and do all three while you are here. each have their distinctive merits not to be missed.
Mid-town, Downtown or Buckhead
I am biased because I lived there, but I live there for a reason. I generally recommend midtown, which has many more bars and restaurants, as well as lots of shopping and sightseeing (Fox Theater, High Museum, Margaret Mitchell House, Piedmont Park, and more) all within easy walking distance. The bars range from dance clubs to sports bars and Irish pubs. There are scores of restaurants and it is a fairly pedestrian area.
Buckhead is comprised largely of big shopping malls. It is more spread out, less pedestrian, and has a more commercial feel. Midtown to me has more of an independent air. If you%26#39;re looking for big department stores and designer stores, then Buckhead%26#39;s the place. If you want boutiques, etc., I would certainly recommend midtown and would advise that you visit the Virginia Highland area nearby.
To me downtown is basically for business people and tourists. It%26#39;s pretty dead at night and there aren%26#39;t really any good restaurants or bars in that area. However, for people whose sole intent is to visit the aquarium, CNN center, the Coke museum, Centennial Park, or to go to Braves, Falcons, Hawks or Thrashers games, downtown is a very convenient place to stay. It is just that downtown is so easily accessible from midtown by MARTA that I would still opt to stay in midtown.
I agree about midtown. I have stayed there several times. Very walkable area with good eat/drink choices. Has a nice artsy vibe to it. Plus it is only a short MARTA ride to downtown attractions.
