40th Birthday Ideas in Atlanta for single female & 1 teen??

Looking to spend some time in Atlanta for 40th. Will be on my own and on occasion with my teen child.

Any ideas as to how to spend the day?

Perhaps there is a venue that caters for both adults and teens. Just need somewhere to socialise and where my teen can perhaps have some fun.

Looking for things to do by myself also.

Interests include - RnB, Soul, Soft Rock,, outdoor activities, socialising, funky themed restaurants (not TGI, nothing like that).

Are there any places of interest to visit other than %26#39;Downtown%26#39;? Not interest in museums, cinema etc.

All ideas welcome.

General suggestions until you answer the above questions:

Aquarium, Six Flags, Piedmont Park, Botanical Gardens, Shopping at Lenox Mall/Phipps Plaza, a Braves Game, Dave %26amp; Buster%26#39;s Arcade, an outdoor concert at Lakewood or Chastain, or an indoor concert at Gwinnett or Phillips Arena, visit a state park for some hiking and nature or visit stn mtn park.

As far as ';funky';, the area called Little Five Points on Moreland Avenue is our funky section:

I would suggest sporting events or concerts, but would need to know when you%26#39;re visiting to make more specific recommendations. It%26#39;s always fun to just hang out at Piedmont Park and people watch, or you can rent bikes or rollerblades. You may enjoy hiking or taking the gondola to the top of Stone Mountain, or visiting the aquarium or World of Coke. Check out the Things to Do tab to the left and see if anything interests you.

I%26#39;m not sure what you mean by funky themed restaurants. Can you clarify?

Medieval Times is a funky themed restaurant.

Sorry - couldn%26#39;t resist. ;-)

The Imperial Fez is a funky themed restaurant . . . I guess. What kind of ';theme'; are you talking about?

That%26#39;s a good idea. Along that same vein there are Loca Luna and Il Localino.

Hi

My teen will be 17 and will be in Atlanta in July.

I really wanted somewhere where the both of us can have a good time - I will feel like I%26#39;m celebrating my 40th.

If there is somewhere where he can get involved with some kind of activities (Dave %26amp; Busters sounds good), while I%26#39;m still enjoying myself with a cocktail. If you get my drift. He will not be drinking of course.

I%26#39;ve been to Litte Five Points a couple of years ago. Just searching for other parts of Atlanta yet to discover. What is Marietta like? Is there anything up there?

Thanks again!

Marietta is a just a mostly nondescript suburb. The downtown area is slightly quaint with several bars and restaurants and theaters around a town square, but it%26#39;s not really worth going out of your way to visit.

I know you said you weren%26#39;t into museums, but the Fernbank museum has Martinis and Imax, which is a lot of fun, and would give your kid something to do.

Definitely go to a Braves game while you%26#39;re here - it%26#39;s a great way to spend an afternoon or evening.

You might also check accessatlanta.com closer to your trip to see if there will be any festivals. Screen on the Green will be going on in July - people picnic in the park (location is not certain) to watch movies on drive-in style screens.

Thanks!

I%26#39;ll research your suggestions.

:)

at 17, he would still enjoy six flags, and they have reduced prices this year. You could watch the theatrical shows while he rides the rides (if you are not into that). Six flags also owns a water park in Marietta, where I am sure he would enjoy the view.

You could take in a drive-in movie, which would probably be a different experience for him:
