Half way point between Roanoke, VA and Savannah

We will be driving from Roanoke,Va to Savannah. We would like to break the trip up and spend the night about the half way point. Does anyone know where that would be? I can%26#39;t tell looking at the map. Mapquest says it 450 miles to Savannah. Also, if I can find the stopping place, next question, recommend moderate place to spend the night. Was hoping that we would be stopping near a good BBQ place around NC or SC. Any help would truly be appreciated. This would be mid July, if this makes a difference.

It would seem that charlotte NC would be the half way point. You will have to post your questions in that forum regarding where to stay and eat. But 450 miles is just an 7-9 hour drive, i would leave early and go straight to savannah. Most hotels now have a check-in time around 3-4pm. If you left at 7am, you could be in savannah before 6pm even if you stopped a few times.

Thanks for your advice regarding posting on the Charlotte forum. We would love to drive straight to Savannah. Due to health problems we are not able to drive over 4 to 5 hours per day. My husband has back problems and I am recovering from hip surgery.

Anywhere from Mooresville, NC to Rock Hill should be a good stopping point. If you wanted to be on the other side of Charlotte traffic, then choose anything at Carowinds exit to Rock Hill. The best BBQ places is found at Lexington which is off I-85. There are probably some good bbq restaurants near some of the hotels off the interstate in Charotte. When you decide on a hotel, I would call the hotel or ask on the Charlotte forum. BBQ restaurants are everywhere in NC and most are all good but I%26#39;m sure some are better. Some serve Lexington BBQ and some Eastern NC bbq.

Once you pick a city, you can also go to that city%26#39;s forum on here, and then type ';best bbq'; in the search box at the top of the page, and find all the previous conversations on that topic or other topics (ie... hotel, B%26amp;B, restaurants).
